Rejuvenating Microdermabrasion in San Diego

Updated: Jan 30, 2023

Whether you’re laying out by the pool, catching some waves, or just enjoying a glass of pinot grigio on the patio at Ketch, chances are that as a San Diegan your skin sees its fair share of sun. Add in daily makeup use, air pollution, aging, and hormones, and it’s very possible that your skin is in need of some serious TLC. While there are more heavy-duty surgical procedures available to help minimize the skin issues associated with sun exposure, microdermabrasion is a minimally invasive treatment that can reveal refreshed, youthful skin without the serious recovery time.

What is microdermabrasion?

“[Microdermabrasion] uses a special applicator with an abrasive surface to gently sand away the thick outer layer of the skin to rejuvenate it.
A different microdermabrasion technique sprays fine particles of aluminum oxide or sodium bicarbonate with a suction to accomplish the same outcome as using the abrasive surface.”

What kinds of skin issues can microdermabrasion help with?

Microdermabrasion can help with a myriad of skin issues, from fine lines and wrinkles to sun spots, melasma, hyperpigmentation, uneven skin tone, enlarged pores, and blackheads.

How we do microdermabrasion in San Diego at Eye Candy Studio:

Here at Eye Candy Studio, we use a three step process to ensure optimum skin rejuvenation. First, we double cleanse, followed by an enzyme exfoliation. Then, using only top of the line tools, we use diamond tip exfoliation to buff off dead skin cells and renew skin’s texture, making multiple passes over your entire face. Finally, we’ll finish with a custom mask and a skin-lifting facial massage. The whole process takes about an hour, after which you’ll walk out with super invigorated, refreshed skin.

Does Microdermabrasion hurt? What’s the recovery like?

Unlike more invasive treatments, microdermabrasion should not hurt. You may experience some mild discomfort - many clients have likened the feeling to a rough or gritty face massage - but please let your esthetician know if you are feeling any pain.

Note: If you have sensitive skin, or a skin issue like rosacea, microdermabrasion may be too rough on your skin.

What should I expect after my first microdermabrasion treatment?

You may feel some minor skin sensitivity, like a very mild sunburn, or skin tightness. But this should dissipate fairly quickly. You’ll want to be gentle with your skin following microdermabrasion, avoiding harsh skin products, waxing, and sun exposure, while being sure to apply moisturizer and sunscreen frequently.

We can’t wait to show you how microdermabrasion can help revive and renew your skin for a more youthful and refreshed appearance with little to no downtime.
